• Monetizing Twitter 101

Today one of our ( mesiab labs ) sites saw a very large influx in traffic, over 7,000 unique visits and rising. After doing some analysis I discovered where this large increase was coming from. Hundreds of twitter users were tweeting a link that led to our site, But why? I dug in deeper and I found this: twtad.com! Let me explain how this site works, its actually very clever. TwtAd gives you links to post on your Twitter account, and you earn money each time someone clicks on your link! Diffirent links pay higher, our site for example was quoted at $.07 per click. Now I’m sure all the links offered on the site are 1.) products they are affiliates for or 2.) sites that advertisers paid to have listed.

    Great way to monetize twtad.com!

  • Twitter Has Big Month, Grows To Over 8 Million U.S. Users

Compete just released this month’s statistics and unsurprisingly, Twitter had a big month, growing around 33 percent over the past month, just within the United States. Recently I’ve been estimating the site at around 10 million global users and it’s clear that with the massive press coverage, the company is growing at a quick rate. Twitter has been all the buzz within the social media space over the past couple months following an unsuccessful acquisition by Facebook.

Facebook then followed up with an update to the site which many are dubbing the “Twitter Response”. Ultimately the two services provide different value propositions. Just yesterday Nick O’Neill from Social Times posted a poll on Twitter of which over 200 people responded to. The question was “Do you send your Twitter updates to Facebook?” According to the results, 48 percent of people keep their updates separated while another 43 percent sync the two.

Essentially the poll was split down the middle for the most part. Facebook has been forced into an interesting position as Twitter essentially “out opened” them by launching an unfiltered API service early on. Facebook is on a path toward openness but it doesn’t appear to be slowing Twitter’s growth. At this rate, the company could have over 100 million users by the end of the year if they keep growing at 33 percent monthly.

More realistically the company will probably end up closer to 50 million users by the end of the year. Regardless, this is huge growth, mimicking some of the early growth experienced by Facebook which has skyrockets to over 175 million users. With all this growth, Twitter is bound to receive a few more acquisition offers by the end of the year despite the recession.

How many users do you think Twitter will have by the end of the year? Do you think the company will be acquired before the year is over?

  • ObamaPath.com | The World Speaking

ObamaPath.com was just recently created and released by us ( Mesiab Labs ). It seeks to serve one purpose only, that being to allow the the world to see what people are saying about our new president Barack Obama in Real Time. People share opinions, post links to articles, give praise, disagree, and express much more about Obama on twitter.com and ObamaPath.com grabs onto one of these every 5 seconds and presents it as a news feed on the website. Who knows… maybe something you have said has already been read by others viewing the site. CHECK IT OUT.

  • Best Hosting Services – Twitter Opinion

It seems like all we hear and see at least 90% of the time when we are making a decision on what hosting service to use is GoDaddy.com. They obviously spend the most money on advertising and promotions, but are they the best? I find it hard to beleive as I have had my share of problems with them and in my opinion they have one of the worst site navigation layouts on the web ( comparing to other companies of the same scale ).  . . So I turned to my Twitter following.. When in doubt ask the community. The results are posted below.  16 Hosting services were nominated, 23 votes cast. The Winner? 1and1

  • Inauguration Day on Twitter

It was a big day at the Twitter HQ on January 20th. Twitter saw 5x normal tweets-per-second and about 4x tweets-per-minute as this chart illustrates. Overall, Twitter sailed smoothly through the inauguration but at the peak, some folks did experience a 2-5 minute delay receiving updates. They will be closely analyzing this so that during the next massively shared global event there is no appreciable delay. Exciting!
